Breaking Down to Break Through
by Livnam Kaur
Sometimes we all need a little breakdown. That’s not a very popular thing to say these days in this age of relentless positive thinking. But we can never move forward if our barriers are not broken down. If we don’t face the breakdown we can never break through. What is the breakdown? It’s the dark night of the soul, the lost feeling, the desire to give up, the tired feeling that comes with trying over and over and not seeing results in life.
We’ve all heard that if we want something different we have to do something different. What if your something different is breaking everything down? If we want to rebuild we have to tear down what is there and start over. Hitting the restart button is a good thing. It’s a do over, a chance for a fresh, new perspective, an opportunity for something better.
Looking with illumination that comes after the dark night makes the whole world look different. Suddenly, the clouds part and we see the path we are meant to take.
We all go through times in our lives when it seems like everything is falling apart. We fight it because we don’t want to feel pain. But pain is not the enemy. Pain is a agent of change. Oh yes, it hurts and we don’t like feeling hurt, but if we fight it we give it power. If we move into it we neutralize it.
The breakdown is the neutralization of the pain.
If you need help, seek it. Never be afraid to reach out to a counselor, a clergy person, a friend, whomever you need. And don’t be afraid of life’s breakdowns. They lead us to life’s greatest rewards. I always tell my clients, “Breakdowns lead to break throughs.” With the proper guidance and perspective we can have those break thoughs, accepting what is, and finding what will be. Our greatest challenges offer our greatest peace. We just need a little breakdown sometimes to get there.
