EVERYONE IS PSYCHIC - ESPECIALLY YOU! by Lisa Campion

I work as a psychic. It's an amazing, wonderful and constantly interesting job, I have to say. Being psychic is very hot these days, which is a good thing for me and quite frankly a nice change from the past. Now it's sort of sexy to be a psychic, but back in Old Days when I was growing up, it was just plain weird.

These days there are a lot of resources available to emerging psychics, but I didn't have a lot of help figuring out this stuff when I was a kid. Mostly I learned things myself through the school of hard knocks. There was no John Edwards on TV, there were no New Age books stores. Just me, a bunch of ghosts and spirit helpers and the occasional switched on person to help show me the way.

Having learned that way, I feel quite passionate about helping other people discover and manage their psychic gifts. I also think there are a lot more psychic people around now then when I was a kid. Psychic abilities seem to be exploding in people.

Maybe it's the way we are evolving. Maybe it's a sign of the times, but I do think that many of the spiritual practices that we engage in, all help to open up our psychic abilities. Practicing yoga, meditation and Reiki will pop open your psychic abilities.

The good news is that everyone is psychic. I believe it's a part of our birthright as human beings and that we wouldn't have evolved to where we are right now if we all hadn't been massively intuitive from day one. Psychic ability is a lot like athletic ability, everyone has some and some people have more then others. It's a really normal part of being human and in some ways not a big deal at all. The TV, movies and other media have created an image of being psychic that is more mythological and fantasy based than our actual experiences.

On TV it's all very dramatic and includes the psychics who are really SPECIAL, not like everyone else. They have big dramatic visions and there is usually something dark and scary involved. In reality, our psychic senses are with us all the time, informing us a hundred times a day in a subtle way. Nothing overly dramatic, nothing scary.

The number one reason why people tell me that they avoid their own intuitive and psychic natures is that they are afraid. They worry that they will see something yucky, scary or evil. (Thanks a lot TV and movies…) My personal experience on this is that you will see all that and more on the six o'clock news. The world of the spiritual is pretty tame compared to the evil we human beings create on a daily basis.

Really, the big problem that we have with connecting to our psychic natures is that we most often just dismiss this information. We don't pay attention. We get plenty of hits all day long, we just ignore them.

Someday I am going to write a book about psychic development and call it “Pay Attention.” That is the biggest piece of advice that I can give to a budding psychic. Another thing to know is that you are ALREADY getting this information all the time and always have. If you pay attention.

Our psychic senses are very subtle most of the time. Occasionally we get an extreme whack on the head when we are really not paying attention and the stakes are high, but mostly it's subtle and it's up to us to act on this information or not. In the old days, psychic stuff used to be called ESP for “Extra Sensory Perception” and this is a pretty accurate description. Our psychic natures are an extension of our normal five senses.

Here are some examples, and I guarantee you will have had most if not all of these experiences yourself:

  • Have you ever just “known” something was going to happen?

  • Have you ever summed someone up right away? (“I love so-so… adored them on sight, can't tell you why...”)

  • Have you ever had a hunch that turned out to be right? (“Don't take the highway today… take the back roads…”)

  • Have you ever felt creeped out in someone's house? Or felt that a particular place was really magical and special?

  • Have you ever had a dream that came true?

  • Have you ever felt the presence of someone you loved who has passed away?

  • Have you ever “heard” a voice in your head that gives you good advice? (We don't always listen!)

  • Have you ever known what someone else was feeling, even when they wouldn't fess up to it?

The list goes on, but you get the drift.

We can break down the psychic senses into these simple categories. Usually you will have one or two of these that are really strong and the others can be developed with practice.

Visual Clairvoyance. This is the one everyone seems to want and it's one of the more rare psychic senses. Of course the folks that really have this one are often trying to turn it off! If you have this one, you might see things out of the corner or your eye, see colors around people or have an active dream life.

Auditory — Clairaudience. This is a very common psychic sense. If you have this, you are likely to hear a voice in your head that you might think is your own voice. It might be as simple as “Get milk, you are out at home,” to other more important thoughts. This one is very handy, so pay attention to who is talking inside your head.

Kinesthetic — In the body feeling. Don't underestimate the power and usefulness of this psychic sense, although it is the most common one. You might feel a lot of body sensations, and all good massage therapists and body workers have this psychic sense. You can get information by touching something or by feeling things in your body. Sometimes this sense is called psychometry- that is the art of reading an object or person by touching them.

Taste and Smell — This is very common when you are doing mediumship work. (Mediums are psychics who specialize in talking to the dead.) Often if there is a ghost around, I will smell something like perfume or cigarette smoke. This is because smell is the sense that is most linked to our memory. It's a great way for our dearly departed to let us know they are with us.

Knowing — This is probably the most accessible and useful of all the psychic senses. Sometimes called intuition, you don't know how you know, you just do. It's more of a gut feeling, or an instinctual knowing that we feel in our bellies rather then our brains. Ignore this one at your peril!

Precognition — Many people also have a degree of this, which is basically getting a little glimpse into the future. This one often comes through dreams and it can be a challenging one. If you don't get too upset about what you are picking up it can be highly useful.

Empathy — This is the feeling sense, empaths sense what others are feeling. Have you ever said, “I have a bad feeling about this,” this is it! Empaths are the psychic sponges… people who pick up everything! This one is also very challenging until you learn to manage the information, it can be very overwhelming.

Everyone has a few of these psychic senses that are strongest for them. If you want to develop all your senses, start with the ones that already very prevalent in you and really give them your attention.

Developing your psychic abilities takes practice. Just like if you wanted to get in shape, you would start working out. Reading books is helpful, the nothing really happens until you get into the gym. Here are some tips to get you started.

> Take a class with a reputable teacher if you can. You need some basic information, someone to guide you and other people to practice with.

> Meditate regularly, nothing works better!

> Use some tools like cards, runes, and a pendulum. There are tons of great tools out there. My preference is for the Tarot cards but anything like that will do.

> Start a journal of your psychic experience to record them, this helps us pay attention and notice.

> Learn to read the signs, coincidences, omens and portents in the real world. We get a lot of confirmation and information through that channel.

> Take time every day to tune into yourself. Check in with your feelings, your body and your sense of knowing. Pay attention to your dreams.
