What is self-love? Is it when we can say that we accept ourselves without judgment? Is it when we can say we love our bodies? Our minds? Our personalities? Is it a spiritual quest that takes us out of everyday life and into not caring about what we look like or how we feel or what others think? Loving yourself can seem nearly impossible when you simply don't like things about yourself. Maybe there is something you would like to change? When do we know that self-love is enough? Do we have to change at all?
Self-love is not about your body or even your mind. Self-love is not about your personality or what you do. Self-love is Divine Love that flows through you and so informs all the love you have in life. When we stay focused on loving ourselves from only our earthly perspective we get caught up in self judgment. And often we get derailed because there are some things in life we just cannot change.
I did not know that spirit is my truth and that no matter how I happened, through human genetics, to manifest physically, I was spirit. It didn't matter how tall I was, I could love myself. It didn't matter that I was never going to look like a super model, I could love myself. It didn't matter that I was not what I wanted. I was what I was meant to be: an extension of God.
Make sure you are not making changes thinking they will "fix" your life. Let the changes you make enhance your perspective, not become your perspective.
To love the self through Divine Love is to have a well-rounded perception of ourselves. We do not only see our physical appearance. We embrace our worth from our soul. Self-love through Divine Love does not mean that we stop caring about our physical appearance or that we stop taking care of ourselves physically. It means that we do care and we do take care because we know we are representatives of God on earth. We begin to see ourselves as an altar, caring for what impression we put out. For we know that what we show forth in the world can heal or hurt. Through self-love we choose to heal.
If you are having trouble embracing yourself, turn within. Find Divine Love and let it guide you to the love you need for your earthly self. The great thing about Divine Love is that it is always there. Even when we don't like ourselves. That is what self-love means.
