But what happens when that isn’t always possible? What happens when we are sitting at home feeling paralyzed by emotion, fatigue and confusion? Or, what if you are in that time between healing and mentoring sessions and you want to be able to take care of yourself and assert your spiritual self-reliance?
For me the answer is to create your own ‘spiritual support kit’ a key element in your spiritual self-care.
Even on your darkest day you can go to your Spiritual Support Kit and find something to make you feel good, remind you of who you truly are, give you hope for the future or to help you stay present with whatever you are currently feeling.
You could have some fun painting and decorating a cardboard box or folder from the craft store. Get out the stickers, glitter and glue and play! Cover it with love.
It’s like a first aid kit for your soul!
What do I put inside my Spiritual Support Kit?
The contents of your Spiritual Support Kit will change over time and that’s OK.
Start with those things that sing to you right now and feel good at this point in your life. You will know what works for you. The aim is to be able to reach in and grab any item and for it to soothe you and remind you of who you truly are; a being of love, passion, creativity, strength, curiosity, courage, hope and faith.
If you need some extra help, imagine you were putting together a Spiritual Support Kit filled with love for someone who means more to you than anyone else. Love is the key.
So here are some ideas of what to put in your Spiritual Support Kit…
The one little book that really sings to you and opens your heart and speaks truth right to your core. The book you can open at any page and be inspired. THAT book.
CDs or an MP3 player that is loaded with meditations, affirmations, workshops and music that nourish and support you.
Pictures, postcards and artwork that resonate with a deep place in you and make you feel soothed, uplifted, open and comforted.
Your favorite crystals that feel yummy when you hold them.
A shawl or pashmina to wrap around you for a comforting snuggle, something super soft and in a color that always makes you feel held, safe and soothed.
Oracle cards or your favorite set of angel cards to give yourself a gentle reading and receive some higher guidance and support.
A ‘self-care list’ of other activities that you know for sure help you to feel grounded, centered, calm, clear, comforted and aligned. On the day you need some soul soothing you go to this list and see which suggestion jumps out at you. Then go and do that thing. For example on my list are thing like “Lay down and take 20 deep breaths, go for a walk in nature, put some music on and dance for 10 minutes, Maybe you had a truly magical, heart-opening experience in the forest and at that moment you found a pine cone or white feather that you just knew was a sign and you felt so deeply connected and moved. Put THAT in your SSK!
Be playful. Be creative. You can’t get this wrong.
Just make sure they are things that bring you into your heart and into your essence not up into your head or into sad memories of the past. This is a positive, nourishing kit to help soothe you, remind you of your self-care, remind you of your favorite energy tools or spiritual practices. Think of it like your best spiritual friend in a box!
