How to Remove Subconscious Negativity
by Rick Riddle

Negativity can be really draining. It can not only change the mood of the people around you, but it can also cause you to feel a little more depressed and down.

You may think you’re not a negative person, but your subconscious may be working against you.
If you’ve ever thought you weren’t good enough, smart enough, good looking enough – or you catch yourself being pessimistic or cynical about things, these thoughts are all born from subconscious negativity.

There are a few things you can do to help yourself get rid of these thoughts and become more positive every day.

Self-Affirmation WorksWe’ve all seen the SNL bit where Stuart Smalley looks in the mirror and says “I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like Me!”

As funny as this bit is, self-affirmation works. The mental theory is similar to exercise. You know that by working out every day, you’re going to be healthier and stronger. The same is true for your mental state. By telling yourself that you’re good enough, smart enough, etc., your mind will eventually just default to this position.

If you’re constantly pessimistic or cynical regarding issues, try to use this method. Over time it will help stop your subconscious from directing your thoughts to negativity.

Have Fun and Laugh a Little
If you’re sitting at home, doing nothing but wallowing in your own sorrow, this has an effect on your mood. Try getting out of the house and having a little fun.

Watch comedic movies, go to comedy shows, and attend local festivals. You’ll find that your body and mental state will respond to the good times and adjust accordingly. Laughter releases the same chemicals as exercise, so it’s no wonder it works so well.

Once your subconscious knows what it’s missing in daily life, it’ll start to expect more of it. This will bring positivity and good thoughts to the forefront of everything you do.

Catch The Negative ThoughtThe number one thing you can do to combat subconscious negativity is to catch yourself having a negative thought.

If you find yourself thinking negatively, stop, and rationalize it. Once you can recognize a negative thought, you can choose to look at it differently. Talk to yourself about the negativity, and figure out why you’re looking at it that way.

You’ll find these thoughts often creep up when you’re alone with yourself. For the same reasons that spending time alone helps unlock your potential, it can also help you turn down the negativity.

You’ll find that more often than not, you’ll be able to see that the negativity is unwarranted. For example, if you catch yourself saying “I’ll never be able to do that”, you’ll be able to know you’re being negative and start asking “Wait - why can’t I do that? What is stopping me from trying? Just my own thoughts?”

When you’re able to turn the negative into a positive, you’ll be able to control your subconscious more often.

Negative thoughts have no power other than the power you give them. Once you realize that you have all the power, the subconscious has no chance.

Recognize the thought, know that it has no power, turn it into a positive, and you’ll win every time.
