How To Stop Fighting Your Emotions

On the spiritual path it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking some emotions are "good" and some emotions are "bad." We're supposed to be positive all the time so any negative emotion has no place in our life. But that isn't very realistic is it?
I'm extremely wary of anyone who says they never allow negative emotions. That just isn't human. Every single one of us has negative emotions. The thing to remember is that they in and of themselves have no power over us unless we let them have it. It is okay to get angry or even, God forbid! negative sometimes.

You know why? Because those emotions can be guideposts. 

Not always, so you have to be intuitive. But they can be. For instance, have you ever met someone and were immediately repelled? You didn't like them, there was something "off" and so you stayed away. That was your intuition telling you to stay away and it came in the form of a "negative." Feeling repulsion is not "positive" but it was helpful in that case, wasn't it?
We have to stop judging every little thing and allow ourselves to experience the truth. This is how we truly go with the flow. Trying to stop emotions is like trying to stop a train with your little finger. But allowing emotions to move through you is like breathing. In and out the flow just goes and never do you get stuck on any one thing.
It's okay to be angry. Just don't live there. It's okay to be sad. Just don't set up shop there. It's okay to be afraid. Just don't let it stop you. There is no emotion that can keep you stuck unless you let it. But you know what will keep you stuck? What is guaranteed to keep you stuck? Trying not to feel something you are feeling. We do not have to be slaves to our emotions but we do not have to be slaves to trying to ignore them either. Both of those choices keep you stuck because both keep you from moving forward in life. Every cause creates an effect and the cause of letting your emotions rule you creates the effect of chaos and the inability to make decisions. Ignoring emotions creates the effect of not accepting the truth. And as we all know the truth is what sets us free. 
You are not your emotions or feelings but you can get to know yourself, your Higher Self, by being honest about them. The truth is that sometimes we get angry. We get sad. We get annoyed. We get jealous. We get afraid. And the truth is also that those things can be used productively. Every single emotion in your life can be used to create awareness of your Higher Self but not if you refuse to even acknowledge the emotion is there.
Do not let negative emotions rule your life but for that matter don't let positive ones rule you either. Your spirit is beyond your emotions. . Let them be the indicators they are meant to be and allow yourself to rise up into your Higher Awareness. From there, you will see clearly and truthfully. From there, you will know yourself and you will always know what to do. From there, your emotions will no longer be making your choices in life. You will.
