Overcome Insecurity With This One SIMPLE Trick
by Andrea Schulman
So, here’s the deal. How do you keep a positive self-image when you find yourself in a situation that makes you feel “less than?”
After all, it’s easy to feel good about yourself when you are by yourself and everything is going splendidly well, but what do you do when someone you perceive as “better” than you walks into the room? How do you keep that high level of confidence in spite of the fact that inevitably you will cross paths with people who are smarter, funnier, wealthier, more attractive, healthier and/or more popular than you?
Thoughts like these disconnect us from the people around us. They cause us to cower, hide and avoid eye contact.
However, when we feel comfortable and secure with other people we are in the state of saying “I am LIKE this person/these people” and “I am one with this person/these people.” This is the primary difference between secure and insecure mentality. It’s all about unity v. separation.

So, knowing this, if you want to overcome insecurity and exude more confidence, look for what connects you, rather than what separates you!
When you walk into a room and feel overwhelmed, instead of dwelling on thoughts like “he is so much better dressed than me,” or “she’s got a better body than me” (differences), make a conscious effort to look for as many similarities as you can. For example “everyone here is about the same age as me” or “everyone here works in the same industry as me.”
You will find that as you make a deliberate effort to brainstorm commonalities with other people (even those you perceive as “better” than you) the more connected and comfortable you will feel with the crowd.
Identify yourself as a part of the community you are standing in, rather than as an entity separate from the group. This is an easy thing you can do to boost your confidence and overcome insecurity.
Trust me, it works!
